BMW 730D G11

A few weeks ago, I decided that I wanted another luxury exec vehicle and began my search. Initially, I pondered another Jaguar XJ after having a really positive experience with my gadget ladened 2011 Portfolio spec example. I also considered an Audi A8 but very quickly realised I’m not a huge Audi fan, they just don’t do it for me. As soon as I started looking at 7 series, I realised this was the car that I was going to buy. I personally think the G11 version of the 7 series (2015-2019) is absolutely stunning, its proportions are perfect in my eyes. When launched in 2016, the 7 series was way ahead of its rivals in terms of spec and optional extras.

Running Costs

The running costs for a BMW 7 series (730d in my case) in the UK can vary based on several factors, including your driving habits, maintenance choices, and fuel prices. Here are some key aspects to consider when estimating the running costs for a BMW 730d in the UK:

  1. Fuel Economy: The BMW 730d is a diesel-powered vehicle known for its relatively good fuel efficiency. Its fuel economy will depend on factors like driving style, traffic conditions, and terrain. The 730d can achieve around 40-45 miles per gallon (mpg) on the combined cycle, making it more fuel-efficient than larger petrol engines.
  2. Fuel Prices: Fuel prices can vary across the UK, so it’s essential to check the current prices in your area. Diesel fuel is typically priced differently from petrol, and it may have fluctuations due to market conditions and government policies.
  3. Insurance: The cost of insurance will depend on factors such as your age, driving history, location, and the level of coverage you choose. High-end vehicles like the 7 Series often come with higher insurance premiums.
  4. Road Tax (Vehicle Excise Duty – VED): Vehicle tax rates are determined factors such as CO2 emissions and the car’s list price. As of April 2021, new vehicles in the UK were taxed under the revised VED bands, with the first-year tax based on CO2 emissions and subsequent annual taxes based on the list price.
  5. Maintenance and Servicing: BMWs typically require regular maintenance to keep them in top condition. Servicing costs can vary depending on the dealership or service center you choose, as well as the specific service package or plan you opt for.
  6. Depreciation: High-end luxury cars like the BMW 7 Series tend to depreciate faster than more affordable models. The rate of depreciation will depend on various factors, including mileage, condition, and market demand.
  7. Tires: Tire costs can vary based on the brand and type of tires you choose. BMW 7 Series models often come with larger and more expensive tires due to their size and performance characteristics.
  8. Parking and Congestion Charges: Depending on where you live or drive, you may incur costs for parking and congestion charges in certain urban areas.
  9. Warranty and Extended Coverage: BMWs typically come with a manufacturer’s warranty, which may cover maintenance and repairs for a limited period. You can also consider extended warranties or service packages to mitigate future repair costs.
  10. Resale Value: The 730d’s resale value can affect your overall running costs. Keeping the car in good condition and following the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule can help preserve its value.

It’s essential to consider these factors and consult with a BMW dealer or a financial advisor to get a more accurate estimate of the running costs for your specific BMW 730d in the UK. Additionally, it’s a good practice to budget for unexpected maintenance and repair costs as your vehicle ages.
